These opening episodes set the tone for a journey that begins with loss... and quickly turns into something much bigger.
MY THOUGHTS
My first impression?
Well, sometimes you can judge a book by the cover because this one is the cutest comic I've ever read.
And somehow... it still manages to hit you right in the heart.
From the very first episode, Foo Bun sets the stage with a simple but emotional premise: a small, determined bun setting out on a journey to bring back someone they care about.
It's quiet. It's gentle. And it immediately pulls you in.
The whole thing reminds me a little bit of the Super Mario Bros. franchise with its cute adventures.
One of the things I really enjoyed was how the characters communicated. Foo doesn't seem to say much at first, but that doesn't stop the story from feeling full of personality. In fact, they made me wonder whether Foo could speak at all.
Ghost Bun more than makes up for Foo's lack of speech early on, and the dynamic between the two creates moments that are both charming and unexpectedly funny.
You can see it from the start just how much they love one another, and that is just pure and beautiful.
There's also this strange, almost whimsical contrast throughout the story.
At one point, the duo comes across a skeleton that's casually identified as Ghost's uncle. It's a little morbid... but somehow still incredibly cute. And then, moments later, there's a small emotional beat involving something even simpler that hits just as hard.
It's that balance that makes the comic unique.
Cute doesn't mean shallow here.
There's emotion behind it.
There's meaning behind it.
And as the journey unfolds, you begin to realize that this world isn't as harmless as it first appears.
There are dangers lurking.
There are moments where Foo is clearly outmatched. And yet... there's also this constant feeling of hope, a desire for Foo to succeed.
When Foo finds itself in danger, something unseen seems to be watching over them. It's subtle, but it adds a layer of comfort to the story, like there's a quiet force making sure this journey continues.
And then... just as you're settling into the tone of the story, it raises the stakes in a way that makes you realize this adventure might be far bigger than it first seemed.
What really stayed with me, though, is Foo's determination.
This is a character driven purely by care.
By loyalty.
By the simple desire to bring someone back.
And that kind of motivation is incredibly powerful.
The art style plays a huge role in all of this. It's soft, calming, and incredibly expressive. Every character design is so charming that it's almost impossible not to fall in love with them immediately.
Honestly... it's the kind of series that just makes you want to sit there and smile.
And the more you read, the more it feels like you're about to start drooling rainbows from how adorable everything is.
Foo Bun resonated with me in a way that doesn't happen often.
It became an instant favorite.
