The sea monster rises from the sea to confront the pirates who disturbed it's sleep and stole from the treasure hoard it was guarding. To their surprise the sea monster speaks, revealing it being IKU-TURSO, an ancient malevolent sea monster!! As Iku-Turso is concidered eternal one, who has existed since the beginning of time, it can't be killed just like that, but Sir Kiljaos might have an idea how they can drive it away. It's very difficult and dangerous though, so they have to plan on how they do it carefully, so Iku-Turso won't sink the whole ship and kill them all. As Iku-Turso appears to be able to speak, captain Zofie suggests they try talking with it to buy them more time for planning. But Zak doesn't have patience for this and doesn't think Iku-Turso is that big of a threat since it did bleed during their fight underwater, so he opens fire at the monster, only angering it to attack...
Iku-Turso is a mythical sea monster from Finnish mythology, appearing in the national epic Kalevala. Many cultures around the world have legends of giant sea monsters, (for example Kraken from Scandinavian folklore) including here in Finland in form of Iku-Turso the bearded one. The first part of Iku-Turso's line on panel 3 is borrowed and roughly translated from a Finnish poet Eino Leino's Iku-Turso- poem.
